Abu Dhabi Hotels Look for a Good Year Ahead

by Rehlat posted on 9th Feb, 2017

As UAE is heavily reliant on corporate demand, Abu Dhabi’s hospitality market remains subdued and it witnessed weakened due to a decline in oil prices and government spending. The Abu Dhabi hotel room occupancy rates dropped to 71 per cent last year against 74 per cent in 2015. This also impacted the average daily rates, which declined by 10 per cent to $127 (Dh466.48).

A spokesperson said, “Hotel operators have looked to reduce room rates to lock in occupancy and noting that market-wide occupancy rates remain at about 70 per cent. While corporate demand has slowed, the near-term outlook for hospitality growth remains highly positive due to wide-ranging efforts to grow tourism demand.”

It is also learnt that Abu Dhabi added about 1,000 hotel keys last year, bringing total supply to 21,400 keys. The emirate is expected to see 2,000 hotel keys in 2017.

Abu Dhabi Hotels Record 4.4 Million Guest Arrivals in 2014

by Rehlat posted on Jan 31st , 2017

According to Abu Dhabi’s Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA), during 2016, over 4.4 million guest arrivals were recorded in Abu Dhabi hotels across the emirate of Abu Dhabi. Thus marking an eight per cent increase over the 4.1 million guest arrivals in 2015.

However, the figure shows a slowdown in the growth rate. As per records, guest arrivals in 2015 rose by 18 per cent year-on-year, even exceeding the tourism board’s targets for the year. Abu Dhabi hotels TCA had not disclosed targets for guest arrivals for 2016.

The slowdown in Abu Dhabi hotels growth comes amid lower global economic growth and lower consumer spending. The strength in the US dollar also makes Abu Dhabi Hotels and the broader UAE more expensive to visitors from key markets such as Europe, the UK, and Russia.

Meanwhile, guest arrivals from China jumped 31 per cent, supported by visa-on-arrival schemes, and the UK continued to lead European markets, cementing its position as the second largest international market, with 238,167 arrivals in 2016.
