Paris Tourism is showing signs of a revival after a yearlong slump attributed to deadly extremist attacks, violent labor protests, strikes, and floods.


According to 2016 figures released by Paris regional tourism committee, the biggest drop came in demand for Paris hotels from Japanese, Chinese, Russian and Italian tourists.


Last year, the Louvre Museum, Musee d’Orsay and Disneyland Paris recorded drop between 9 and 13 percent and overall tourism-related revenue in the region fell more than 1 billion euros or about 6 percent.

Paris Hotels Still Suffer Decline in Hotel Room Rates

Due to the ongoing terror fears and other major incidents, Paris Hotels Room rate recorded a decline by 6 Per cent to an average of €314 (£271) while occupancy dropped by 11 per cent in 2016.

Paris witnessed average room rates (ARR) slide from €334 in the 12 months to December 2015 to €314 in the same period the following year.

Meanwhile, Vienna hotel prices also fell 2 per cent across 2016, despite a sharp rise in the month of December (up 8 per cent), to an average of to €153 (£132). And Vienna's falling hotel prices were linked to a fall in food and beverage (down 0.5 per cent) and conference and banqueting (down 7 per cent).


Hotels in Paris Witness Huge Decline in RevPAR

Hotels in Paris registered a 40.2% year-on-year decline in profit per room in 2016 as top and bottom line performance was hit by a range of natural and man-made incidents. Moreover, Parisian hoteliers had a poor start to 2016.

As Paris was reeling from the terrorist attacks in November 2015, year-on-year RevPAR fell by 15.0% in January alone, which led to a 51.1% decline in profit per room for the month and was a sign of things to come.

For 2016 year end, hotels in Paris recorded a 19.9% drop in RevPAR, which is as a result of an 11.3 percentage point drop in occupancy and a 5.9% fall in achieved average room rate, to €314.27.


Invesco Real Estate Joins hands with Paris Hotel 25Hours

Invesco Real Estate (IRE) has recently completed a strategic repositioning of the Terminus Nord Paris Hotel to the lifestyle brand 25 hours. According to the latest reports, a huge renovation will take place to reconfigure the property.

In parallel, IRE has implemented the first hotel management contract between 25hours Hotel Company and Hua Kee. The hotel features 236 rooms with sophisticated amenities and its renovation will be completely renovated in two stages, starting in spring 2017.

The first 141 rooms of the 25 hours Terminus Nord hotel and large sections of the public areas will open in summer 2018. The hotel renovation, including the restaurant and bar, is scheduled for completion in spring 2019.


Citizen M to Launch Four Properties this Year

Citizen M, a Dutch hotel group is all set to open four properties in Paris, New York and Taipei in 2017.

Dutch hotel group will add two Paris Hotels this spring season. While Citizen M Paris La Defense consists of the 175-room Citizen and M Gare de Lyon boasts of 330-room and it will open in early summer.

The new New York Hotel Citizen M will open a 300-room property at the end of the year, joining the existing Citizen M Times Square, while in Taiwan the 267-room Citizen M Taipei is set to open in April.

The group will also open a hotel in Shanghai’s Hongqiao district in 2018. In 2016, Citizen M opened two properties in London’s Shoreditch Tower of London.


Security Fears Dips Paris Hotels Revenue

As per MKG reports, Islamist attacks fear kept foreign tourists away from Paris and the Riviera last year, costing Hotels in Paris (French Hoteliers) an estimated 650 million Euros in lost revenue.

More than 230 people have been killed in militant attacks in France over the past two years; including 86 during last year’s July 14 national holiday celebrations in the Riviera resort of Nice. Revenue per available hotel room (RevPAR) plunged 14.6 percent in Paris in 2016 compared to 2015 and 2.8 percent in the French Riviera but rose 4.4 percent elsewhere in the country, according to MKG data.

Overall RevPAR fell 5.1 percent on average in France last year to 56.30 Euros with occupancy rates down by 1.2 percentage points to 64.2 percent and average prices down 3.3 percent. By comparison, average RevPAR was 59 Euros in 2014 in France.
