Cairo International Airport is the Africa’s second largest airport. It is located in Heliopolis which is 22 km northeast to central Cairo, 40km from Giza Pyramids and 15 kilometers from the heart of the city. Cairo Airport Terminal Information

The International Airport of Cairo serves the air traffic with four terminals. The terminal 1 is locally known as the ‘Old Airport” and terminal 2 is still known as the “New Airport”. Terminal 4 is operated for seasonal flights.

Terminal 1 – it has 4 halls and 12 gates. Previously several Middle Eastern airlines and EgyptAir are the only best airliners served in this terminal. Presently other foreign airliners are also being operated in this terminal. All arrivals and departures of all airlines are from terminal 1 hall 1 excepting for Saudia which is a sole airliner served at terminal 1 hall 2. Most of the international airlines arrive at hall 3. A new shopping mall named “Air Mall” serves all public at the international arrival hall 3 of terminal1. This shopping mall has been started as a part of “Airport City Concept” which is a service dedicated towards the entertainment to airport visitors, travellers and the public. Hall 4 is totally dedicated to private executive jet services. This operates individually apart from the commercial passenger terminals.

Terminal 2 – it has got 7 boarding gates primarily serving European, Gulf and East Asian airliners. This terminal is closed for renovation and is scheduled to reopen in 2015 and is meant to operate along with terminal 3 reinforcing the airport to be a regional hub.

Terminal 3 – this serves a capacity of 11 million passengers every year. There are 2 piers and 32 gates which are used to serve all the domestic and international traffic on contact and remote stands. It also includes 6 check-in-islands with 110 check-in counters, 76 (emigration plus immigration) counters 52 contact and remote aircraft parking stands, 15 passenger information counters, 7 luggage storage and lockers, 63 elevators, 50 moving sidewalks and 51 escalators. An international food court is also available. This terminal is connected with bridges and flyovers for movement of the travellers to and from the terminal building and the car parking areas.

Terminal 4 – located west of terminal 3 operates for seasonal flights only. All the Hajj passengers of Saudia airliner will be served by terminal 1 and the Hajj passengers of EgyptAir will be served by this terminal. It is designed to handle a total strength of 3.2 million people with 27 check-in counters and 7 gates handling around 1200 passengers per hour.
